Trauma Informed Practice review of training modules for workforces across HSC, Justice, Education, C&V sectors
The SBNI TIP team developed modules in 2019 regarding raising awareness in the workforce regarding the prevalence of adverse childhood experiences and their potential to impact across the lifespan, if not prevented or mitigated against. These modules include information about our stress response system and how brains develop. A second module builds on that understanding, gives a definition of trauma, and what mitigates adverse childhood and adulthood experiences. It provides some introductory guidance on how to respond to behaviour which may indicate a person has experienced trauma and what can support recovery and build resilience. It also looks at staff wellbeing.
We now need to update these materials, language is changing and our own understanding has developed.
We are seeking people who have used services -any service- whether universal or specific- in any of the above sectors, to share their views with regards to what they think workforces need to know about adversity (in childhood and adulthood) and trauma too, if that is relevant.
The key trauma informed principles which embody a trauma informed approach are:
- Safety
- Trustworthiness
- Choice
- Collaboration
- Empowerment
- Inclusion
What we want to ask is to consider each of these principles and think about what works to make you/an individual feel safe, how services can demonstrate that they are to be trusted etc. To do this we would like to have an informal discussion with you, initially showing you the outline of what we previously developed, with the overall aim of embedding a trauma informed approach across all public services.
The meeting could be in person or online and we could work with what participants would prefer.
The meeting will be a maximum of 2 hours long with a break in the middle, refreshments will be provided if in person. Location will be accessible and easy to find.
We will cover travel expenses and offer vouchers in exchange for your time.
