Like many countries, we face the growing cost of poor health – to the NHS, our communities and wider productivity. Health inequalities are still really big – people in Northern Ireland live on average just over 60 years in good health! That is lower than England and than the UK as a whole.
That’s where Our Future Health can help.
We want to help fix these issues by making it easier, quicker and more inclusive to do research that tells us why people get ill and how to prevent and treat people. We want to help people live longer, healthier lives through detecting, treating and preventing diseases such as cancer, dementia, diabetes and heart disease.
To do this, we need up to 5,000,000 volunteers to join our programme (that’s more than 3x the number of adults in Northern Ireland). Taking part has two parts: filling out a questionnaire and providing a small blood sample. We are working hard to make sure that people across Northern Ireland are properly included and given the chance to participate. We want to reach 20,000 adults!
So, over the next six months, we’re bringing mobile clinics to places across Northern Ireland including Belfast, Antrim, Lurgan and Bangor – and we are working on other ways to involve people and make it even easier to join. So even if we’re coming near you, we will soon!
We’d love to work with you to get people from your community to participate.
Join two webinars to have your say in how more people can participate in this pioneering scheme.
