Development of a career pathway for District Nursing Services

The career pathway will clarify the core competencies, education/professional requirements and job descriptions for these clinical roles in District Nursing Services: Senior Nursing Assistant, Community Staff Nurse, Senior Community Staff Nurse, District Nurse and Advanced Nurse Practitioner. These are in line with the Department of Health, District Nursing Framework.

The Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery (NIPEC) is developing a career pathway for District Nursing Services on behalf of the Chief Nursing Officer. NIPEC also have a Steering Group which currently has a space available for a service user/carer to join and contribute to. Alternatively, the NIPEC are open to meeting with and hearing the views of a group of individuals/carers who are or have been in receipt of District Nursing Services.
