About us

The Public Health Agency (PHA) has lead responsibility for overseeing the implementation of Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) policy.

The PHA works through the Regional HSC PPI Forum, which has representation from all HSC organisations as well as service user, carer or community and voluntary sector representatives, to help inform, shape, guide and deliver this work.

The Forum works to provide leadership and support, and to drive forward the promotion and advancement of PPI across HSC organisations in Northern Ireland. It does this through:

  • sharing best practice;
  • joint working on areas of common interest;
  • active participation of service users and carers.

The Forum is co-chaired by the PHA and a service user/carer representative. PHA provides the secretariat. The terms of reference and meeting minutes highlight the work of the group.

Valuing People, Valuing Their Participation – A Strategy for Personal and Public Involvement for the PHA and Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) outlines how we will embed PPI into culture and practice. The current PPI Action Plan 2017-19 sets out the key action areas for the Forum.
