Become a Lay Member on the BHF Data Science Centre Oversight Committee

We’re looking for a lay member to join our newly formed Oversight Committee to provide recommendations on the strategy and direction of the BHF Data Science Centre, review the Centre’s progress, and provide support and advice on developing key partnerships and achieving the Centre’s goals.

We’re looking for someone who have experience of working at a strategic level or with senior leaders as a patient or public representative and have the confidence to put across their views.

Project overview

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) Data Science Centre works to deliver the data and data science needed to address some of the most pressing challenges in heart and circulatory health research. This can help shape health services for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases (such as heart attacks, heart failure and strokes), provide patients and health professionals with the tools to make better decisions, and bring the latest medical discoveries to patients across the UK.

Details

The Oversight Committee for the BHF Data Science will provide recommendations to the BHF and HDR UK on the strategy and direction of work moving forward. Joining the Oversight Committee will give you the chance to provide strategic input into the direction of the Centre and provide the patient and/or public viewpoint. As part of the Committee, the lay member will review centre’s progress, and provide support and advice on developing key partnerships and achieving the centre’s goals. The lay member will also provide the patient and/or public viewpoint when discussing strategic areas of research. The Oversight Committee Lay Member will also have the opportunity to chair the BHF Data Science Centre Patient and Public Advisory Group. If interested in taking on this additional role, you will need experience of chairing or facilitating meetings and will have an additional informal discussion about your suitability to chair the group. You do not need to take on this additional role to become a Lay Member on the Oversight Committee and any interest you may have in doing so will not positively or negatively affect your suitability for the Lay Member role.
